PARADE DOG
Brunswick has been a very busy dog this winter. He has participated in a number of parades including the Anoka Halloween Parade, the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Parade, and the Kenyon Carriage and Cutter Parade. Along with other Newfoundland dogs and their owners, all members of the Northstar Newfoundland Club, Brunswick and his owner, Ted Mittelstadt, walk in the parades, greeting spectators along the way.
Brunswick loves the attention and reciprocates by wagging his tail and giving Newfy kisses to willing youngsters in the crowd.

Brunswick is one of four male puppies born in May, 2009. His sire is AKC/UKC CH Misty Mountain's Lord of the Seas, RN,WD (Nelson). His dam is AKC CH Minnemato's Jewel of the Sea (Julie).

Brunswick shares Ted with AKC CH Minnemato's Waconia, RN, a retired parade dog. Waconia was Brunswick's nanny during his puppyhood and is now his Newf Best Friend.

Brunswick will be participating in more parades in 2011 and working on carting and completing his AKC Championship.

Therapy Dog -- Kato
Kato,a very young Newfoundland, has an important job -- making people feel better! We would like to share what his owners have written about him.

"Minnemato’s Mankato (“Kato”) lives in Connecticut with owners Gail and John Marshall. Kato earned his CGC at age 16 months and passed his Therapy Dog, Inc. test at age 18 months in February 2011. Kato and John are a designated “Pet Therapy Team” and have begun their work at a local nursing home. Kato visits patients in their rooms, attends social gatherings in the common room, and greets staff along the way (they need some good dog vibes too!). Kato stands so tall (his chin is 28 inches off the ground) that his beautiful head is easily accessible for patting by patients in beds or wheelchairs. His is a very low key, sweet Newfie with 2 very important therapy dog traits: he isn’t a compulsive face licker and he doesn’t want your lunch. John has an application pending at the VA Hospital and, since he would like to see Kato work with children, another application in process at a local hospital."

Thank you, Gail and John, for sharing this information.
Kato is out of Ch Minnemato's Good Thunder (Brian), and Minnemato's Sacagewea (Gigi).

BRIAN IS FOURTEEN
A happy fourteenth birthday to Brian (Ch Minnemato's Good Thunder)! Brian lives in Alaska with Steve and Merri Anne Noey. He spends his winters in Anchorage keeping moose out of the yard, and his summers on an island in Prince William Sound catching salmon. Some of you may remember seeing the video Newfoundland As A Fishing Dog that Merri Anne and Steve produced, showing Brian along with his pals Stormy and Maggie catching salmon in an Alaskan stream. Brian catches a salmon, carries it in his mouth to the cabin, and then drops it in front of the stove for Merri Anne to cook for breakfast. We thank Steve and Merri Anne for taking wonderful care of Brian and we hope that he has many more adventures. Best Wishes, Big Guy!

VERSATILE NEWFOUNDLAND!
Congratulations to Jerry and Deni Hall on achieving the Versatile Newfoundland title on their Newfoundland, Ch Minnemato's Lake Thunder (Cole). In order to achieve this title the dog must earn a Water Rescue (WRD) title, as well as a Draft Dog (DD) title and a Companion Dog (obedience) title. Cole earned his draft dog title this past summer, and his Water Rescue Dog title this fall. He has earned obedience titles to the level of Companion Dog Excellent (CDX), and Rally Excellent(RE). Cole is out of AKC/UKC Ch Minnemato's Sudden Thunder, CD, RN (Stanley), and AKC/UKC/Int Ch Minnemato's Hellbent for Election, CD, RN, CGC, TDI (Ellie). WAY TO GO COLE!!!!

PLANNED BREEDINGS
We have changed our breeding plans for both Gigi and Julie. It appears that they will be coming into season at about the same time. We want only one litter at a time so we are probably going to breed Julie and wait for the next season for a litter out of Gigi. We will breed Julie (Ch Minnemato's Jewel of the Sea) to Brian (Ch Minnemato's Good Thunder), or to a brown recessive champion. Plans have not been made final as yet. Either breeding should result in some lovely puppies. Julie is a proven brood bitch. When bred to AKC/UKC Ch Misty Mountain's Lord of the Seas, RE,DD,WD,in 2009, Julie produced four outstanding male puppies. Three of the four are AKC pointed and should receive their championships this year.
